News that IBM has created an augmented reality shopping app has caused a stir in technology circles however, and critics believe that at a time where high street shops are closing at an alarming rate, an AR application may be more of a novelty than a useful tool. Although the app is still a prototype, it does sound promising. Shoppers will be able to register profiles with their personal data preferences, and then have products related to their personal profiles advertised to them. For example, if a user was allergic to certain ingredients, the app would only recommend foods that were safe to consume.

The app even contributes to protecting the environment, and can also be used on an iPad kiosk/evopad kiosk. If a user wanted to know how to reduce their carbon footprint though purchases, then the app would only recommend products that had biodegradable packaging. Users can even scan products with their smart phone camera, and the app will tell them how their profile relates to the product they’re about to purchase. IBM believe that in time, and with more people using the app, they’ll be able to create a social media ‘augmented reality’ forum, where users’ reviews of products will be forwarded to related profiles – pretty smart huh?

Whether the app will actually benefit shoppers is another question altogether. Although at first glance it is a simplistic and very basic design, and at 11 mm thick it is not huge, but bigger than most new tablets on the market. Thanks to the thicker design it also has a pleasant texture around the back of the tablet, and it is extremely easy for users to hold and use 10 inch tablets in landscape mode, due to this thicker textured back as well.

The Specs -
With the this Acer tablet you are not going to get the best looking tablet but with a quad core Tegra 3 brain, and the latest Ice Cream Sandwich OS, it has what you want on the inside. The unit also boasts an impressive full HD display, and the highest quality resolution you are going to find in the tablet market today at 1920 X 1200 resolution display. When watching videos, you are also going to get an impressive 1080 p display, making for clarity and perfect visual quality. You will also get great viewing angles, and bright color displays from the impressive screen.

Upgrades & Performance -
With the A700 tablet you have the Acer ring (the coloured dot at the bottom of the screen), which allows you to see the recently visited sites and shortcuts, and it also appears on the lockscreen allowing you to access it anytime. With the quality screen and clarity, the 1.3 GHz Nvidia chip is a bit lagging in performance. For gaming in high speed, or using the 5 MP camra, you will notice the speed is not as fast as you would expect or hope for it to be. The SD slot is also a great feature, as movie downloads are going to eat away at the 32 GB storage the device comes with built in.

Weight & Sound -
The Acer tablet is also a pretty heavy tablet, and it weighs 650 grams, which is a full 50 grams heavier than similar tablets from other manufacturers. The device also features built in Dolby speakers at the bottom of the tablet, which are by far better than any other Android tablets that have recently been released. In addition to the larger screen size on this tablet, movie buffs are going to love the image and sound clarity this A700 tablet is going to give them.

Summary -
Although it is larger, heavier, and a bit bulky, its whats on the inside that counts with the Acer Iconia Tab A 700 tablet. It is great for those who want a tablet for movie watching, or everyday web browsing. And, at the lower end of the price spectrum, it delivers pretty good memory capacity, with with several device ports, you can easily expand on the already included memory.

Retina Display

The biggest improvement of the iPad 3 is its display. The screen of the iPad 3 produces the highest quality images for the iPad. This makes watching movies or videos on your iPad much more enjoyable. Panasonic Eluga review – design and build

The design of Panasonic Eluga is quite appealing. As we know, the HTC One X is one of the thinnest android phones out there, but the Eluga breaks the limit with its super-slim 7.8mm body. Weighing just 103g, the slightly-textured matt plastic makes this phone feels solid and very comfortable in the hands.

Panasonic Eluga review – screen

In terms of screen, the Eluga is already on the right track to get attention with its 4.3-inch AMOLED screen. The AMOLED technology makes it able to produce bright colors and deep black for those blacks. Unfortunately, for a phone at this price, the resolution of this phone (960 x 540) is quite low, especially if we compare it to the high display resolution of the iPhone 4S and HTC One X.

Panasonic Eluga review – waterproof

Water is indeed the enemy for most Smartphone, but the Eluga is an exception. This phone is fully waterproof and Panasonic claims that this phone will still work normally for 30 minutes though it is submerged up to 1m in the water. Though we did not submerge it up to 1 meter, but it handled our “tap” with no problems. For those who live in rainy area, this feature is definitely beneficial, but for most android users, this feature may have no significant impact.

Panasonic Eluga review – camera

Camera performance is the downside of this phone. It only comes with a standard 8MP camera, and the bad thing is it does not have a flash. It can produce good photos in good lighting conditions, but when the lighting is low then this phone’s camera is definitely useless, even some budget android handsets can easily defeat the Eluga in a camera battle.

Panasonic Eluga review – performance and battery life

The Eluga is equipped with a 1GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4430 processor and 1GB of RAM. Although the processor is pretty dated and it can handle most tasks, its’ performance is far behind the latest quad-core processors from Qualcomm and NVIDIA. It runs quite smooth when it is used for web browsing via Wi-Fi although shutter occurs occasionally. If compared to those budget android handsets, you’ll definitely get better browsing experience with this one.

Another downside of this handset comes from the battery. Coming with a 1,150mAh battery, a fully charged battery is only enough to power up this phone for less than 8 hours with 50-percent brightness, Wi-Fi on and moderate use. Whether you are a heavy or normal user, preparing a replaceable battery is highly recommended if you are interested with this handset.

In terms of storage, the Eluga offers an 8GB of storage, but the usable space is just around 4GB. Unfortunately, Panasonic does not provide a memory slot so you won’t be able to expand the memory of this phone.

Summary

At this price range we actually expect a little more, but the Eluga is quite good with its classy design, AMOLED screen, and waterproof feature. Unfortunately, it is missing some basic elements like a camera flash, a memory slot, and a tougher processor. Hopefully, Panasonic can show better handsets for the next efforts.

The primary changes that come along with this upgraded version include a CMOS sensor with 16 million pixels instead of 12.2. This is a notable jump, so comparing the overall impact of this on the cameras capability will be interesting to analyze.

Just like Leica X1, even the X2 version is fixed with Leica Elmarit lens with details 24mm f/2.8 ASPH. This has a really high quality as it sharp. But the question is- Will this be affected by the added pixel count?

Having the same lens again means the focusing distance at the closest point is just 30 cm which can be really disappointing at times. The raw files of image produced are absolutely lovable but the JPEG image quality can turn out to be disappointing because of the slow autofocus system.

Though the final sample quality of Leica X2′s image file could not be judged but the pre-production sample was really impressive because the focus speed of Leica X2 was much faster than Leica X1.

Screen

The screen is highly functional but seems a little outdated because other similar versions have a screen with 460,000 pixels, spread across 3 inch size. X2 on the other hand is just 2.7 inches with 230,000 pixel count. Hence the camera looks like a block for such an expensive price tag.

Controls

The control setup of this camera fits both an amateur as well as an expert photographer. An auto setting mode is given for the camera to manage every feature all on its own. If you are more experienced than you can preferable change your settings as per the capture requirement. So it goes well for all users.

Battery

The battery life X2 is certainly better than X1. One full charge lets you snap as many as 450 shots, whereas X1 could only pull 250 shots on the same charge.

Picture quality

The stellar reputation of Leica happily rests on its amazing picture quality. The lens along with CMOS sensor gives way to sharp and exceptional shots. The details are excellent and the picture speaks out life. One can also change the color setting and capture shots in black and white. This camera is perfect for reportage and street photography because of its tight lens, which does not give much scope for capturing landscapes or head to shoulder portraits.
This camera has no video making option and is more like an old fashioned picture-taker with latest upgrades.

The final verdict

For many this camera will come across as a slow one when compared to other major brands but the picture quality of X2 and the superb lens are a great asset. Overall one can consider buying one for the love of photography in its purest of forms.

If the bulge at the bottom and the camera lens are removed, then the Ascend P1 will be one of the thinnest android handsets you can find in market with the thinnest point is 7.7mm. While the front side is dominated with glossy black, the back side is dominated with shiny white plastic with unique curves that make this handset quite comfortable to hold and use.

Overall, the performance of its 8-megapixel camera is average, some photos that we took with this handset were sharp and clear while some others were over saturated and have flat colors. Fortunately, the autofocus is very responsive and this handset is loaded with lots of features such as white balance, saturation, HDR, burst mode, etc.

If the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the HTC One X seems too hard for you to reach, the Huawei Ascend P1 can be the best alternative for you. It is stylish and powerful, and if you don’t mind with an average performance camera and a standard internal memory capacity, the P1 won’t disappoint you.

With the powerful brand name, and OS, you know you are going to get speedy performance, and named media edition, you can expect great movie viewing and gaming on this device.

Power & Speed -
The Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition has an OMAP 4 processor, which is one of the fastest you can get on a tablet today. This is going to make for great gaming (for the games you can download), faster processing when connecting or downloading movies, and a great speed for things that require several processors to run.

The Size -
The 8.2 and extremely thin body make the Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition the perfect size. It is convenient for those who want something on the go, but want a screen size that is a little larger than the traditional 7 inch tablet, but not as bulky as the larger laptop and notebooks that are being sold. So, with the smaller size, and very thin body, you can easily transport this device anywhere, and it is not going to take up too much space, and barely any weight, when carrying it around during the day.

What it misses on -
Although the Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition is a powerful, and fast moving device, it does miss on a couple of key components. It is a shrunk down version of the 10.1 inch screen, so if you prefer a larger screen, this might be one issue. The SD port has also been eliminated, but no other ports have been removed because of the smaller size, and you are going to get a shorter battery life on a full charge than with the original tablet. And, the absence of 3G might be a deal breaker for some, but this is the only major miss that the tablet has against it, otherwise being one of the best and fastest Android tablets that are sold today.

Summary -
With a lightning fast processor, perfect size, and very slim body, the Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition is a tablet for those who are always on the go. The one major drawback is the lack of 3G, but other than that it is possibly one of the top Android tablets you can find. It is also very reasonably priced, which makes it one of the most affordable tablets not only from the Android family, but amongst the other competitors in the tablet market as well; and, at a low price, it surely delivers on all fronts.

The Theme -
In this Darksiders II game you will take on the role of Death, trying to clear the name of his brother War. Combat is at the heart of this game, and with several great and unique weapons, and warlike gaming, you are going to be going up against several characters to reach the games end. With new stages, weapons, and modes of play, you are going to encounter more than just the typical war and fight scenes that you come across in other games of play.

Challenges -
In addition to the battles and combat, Death also has to attack several puzzles and defeat them along the way, in order to move forward in the game. This twist adds a new challenge, and makes for a more in depth gaming experience, as opposed to simply fighting at every corner, and using a sword to slash your way through the end. The simple tests and puzzles you face early on are going to become more and more difficult as the game progresses, which is going to add a great gaming experience for those who like to challenge their mind, as well as their fighting skills when playing. Although the tasks get more difficult, the levels of difficulty progress through the game, and you are not going to experience a huge jump in difficulty levels from one stage to the next.

Side Quests -
In addition to the main storyline and plot, the Darksiders II game also packs in several optional quests across the many worlds you are going to encounter during your gaming experience. Additionally, the arena mode is going to allow you to fully display your fighting skills in the challenges.

Summary -
Although Darksiders II does recycle old ideas from popular games like Zelda, the new challenges, stages, and puzzles, allow the game to stand on its own. With various side quests, new challenges, and a unique story and plot, players are going to love what the developers have created. Additionally, the great graphics and in depth design of the characters and the different worlds adds to the appeal of playing, and makes the game far more exciting for those who love to take on challenges.
